In 1989 a storefront operation was unique to the funeral industry, but it made sense for families that were going to have funeral services at graveside, or from their Synagogue as it was much less expensive to maintain than a multi-million dollar funeral home.

Now, with the ability to show caskets on a computer screen, it is no longer necessary to have a large casket selection room, so the need for a large storefront has passed.
